On Monday 24th November, a new ministry began in Shepton Mallet Deanery. In a first for the Diocese, Reverend Prebendary Julian Smith was licensed as Priest in Charge of the Benefice of Chewton Mendip with Ston Easton, Litton and Emborough, whilst continuing as Priest in Charge of St Thomas, Wells with Horrington. At the same time, Reverend Howard Latty who is a non-stipendiary Priest was licensed as Assistant Priest on a house for duty basis. The Bishop of Taunton, the Right Reverend Peter Maurice and the Archdeacon of Wells, the Venerable Nicola Sullivan officiated. This benefice, together with St Thomas’ and St Cuthbert’s, Wells and Wookey Hole will form a Local Ministry Group.
